A desired legalization… at what price?
Switzerland is currently at a major turning point: the National Council’s Health Committee has launched a consultation on a bill to legalize cannabis for non-medical use by adults. This proposal would allow the cultivation of three plants per person, and a strictly controlled market, with taxation based on THC content. Pilot trials (Basel, Zurich…) have already been underway since 2023 to assess the real impact.
Why I say no: serious health effects
1. On the body
Contrary to popular belief, cannabis is not harmless. It can cause cardiovascular and respiratory problems, and impair the immune system. Not to mention that when smoked, it carries the same toxic substances as tobacco: tar, carbon monoxide, irritants… An open door to serious, sometimes irreversible lung disease.
2. On the mind
The psychological effects are not to be outdone: anxiety, memory problems, concentration difficulties, even psychotic disorders in high-risk cases. Cannabis is a real factor in mental vulnerability, which can no longer be ignored.
3. What about tobacco?
Legalization risks creating a synergistic effect between cannabis and tobacco (notably by mixing cannabis and tobacco). Tobacco is responsible for cancers, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases that have been massively documented: smoking a joint is also “consuming tobacco”. Legalizing cannabis also indirectly encourages smoking, with its deleterious consequences for health.

Why refuse legalization: prevention and protection
This bill, while legitimizing safe access to cannabis, raises serious questions. Behind the ostensible advances in the protection of minors and the fight against the black market, a risk lurks: the trivialization of cannabis and the lowering of psychological barriers to its consumption.
Cannabis withdrawal: breaking the cycle is possible… but complex
Quitting is no walk in the park. The cannabis withdrawal is accompanied by physical and psychological symptoms: irritability, insomnia, appetite problems, anxiety, loss of motivation. That’s why appropriate support is crucial.
Why stop?
- Protect your physical… and mental health.
- Regain mental clarity, motivation and a more balanced social life.
- No longer aggravate the impact of tobacco on the body (particularly in the case of joints/tobacco combinations).

In a nutshell?
The proposed legalization of pot in Switzerland has sparked off a legitimate debate… but I choose to remain opposed. Because beyond accessibility, it’s health (public and mental) that could be the big loser. Cannabis is not an inert game. And if you’re looking to free yourself from this addiction, remember: withdrawal is difficult, but with the MyLaserTabac method, it’s possible – otherwise.
