A new stage in the fight against smoking
From July 1, 2025, a new measure will transform our daily lives: smoking will be banned on beaches, in public gardens, in urban forests and in the immediate vicinity of schools. This is a major decision, taken by the government as part of the forthcoming public health law. This regulation, already applied in some pioneering communes, will now become the national norm.
This initiative is part of an ambitious public health policy aimed at reducing the prevalence of smoking in France, which remains one of the highest in Western Europe.
Why this ban? A desire to protect health and the environment
Protecting non-smokers
The primary aim of the ban on smoking in open public spaces is to protect non-smokers – especially children – from passive smoking. In playgrounds and after school, children are often exposed to cigarette smoke. This law aims to protect their health and living environment, and to set an example that is consistent with the prevention messages conveyed at school.
Combating the trivialization of the gesture
It’s also a question ofavoiding the trivialization of smoking in public spaces. Seeing an adult smoking on a park bench or in the sand can contribute to normalizing this behavior among the very young. The aim is clear: to discourage the initiation of smoking in adolescence, a pivotal moment when most smokers begin their consumption.
A major ecological challenge
In addition to health, this measure also responds to an ecological emergency. Every year more than 23 billion cigarette butts are thrown on the ground in France. This waste takes up to 15 years to decompose, releasing toxic substances that pollute soil and waterways. On beaches, a single cigarette butt can contaminate up to 500 liters of water.
By making beaches and green spaces smoke-free, the French government also intends to preserve these places of nature and reduce tobacco-related pollution.
National regulations based on local experience
Some French cities, such as Nice, Marseille, Biarritz and Strasbourg, had already taken the lead. In Strasbourg, schools have been smoke-free since 2022. In Biarritz, the Côte des Basques beach has been smoke-free since 2019. These examples demonstrate the effectiveness and gradual acceptance of this type of measure by the public.
This nationwide rollout will standardize the rules, making them more visible and comprehensible to all.

What areas are concerned?
As of July 1, smoking will be strictly prohibited:
- on public beaches,
- in public gardens and municipal parks,
- in urban forests,
- within 10 meters of schools, including nurseries.
Municipalities will be responsible for enforcing the law. Signage will be reinforced, and fines will be levied for non-compliance.
A measure welcomed by healthcare professionals
Doctors, anti-cancer associations and public health professionals welcome this measure. For Professor Loïc Josseran, President of the Alliance Against Tobacco, it is a strong political signal: “France is finally giving itself the means to build a tobacco-free society by 2032”.
This ban is seen as a decisive step, which could be followed by further restrictions in the future, notably on restaurant terraces and in certain public places.

An opportunity to quit smoking
The right time to quit smoking
Faced with the proliferation of non-smoking areas, more and more smokers are considering quitting for good. These new regulations create a context conducive to change, by reducing the places and times when smoking is possible.
It’s the perfect time to start smoking cessation, and one of the most effective methods available today is the anti-smoking laser.
Anti-smoking laser: a gentle, effective method
The laser smoking cessation is a method derived from auriculotherapy. It involves painless stimulation of reflex points in the ear. The aim? Reduce the desire to smoke, alleviate the stress associated with withdrawal, and help the body return to a nicotine-free equilibrium.
Unlike nicotine substitutes, the anti-smoking laser contains no chemicals. It has an in-depth effect from the very first session, with a high success rate from the very first attempt. Many specialized centers now offer tailor-made support, including nutritional advice, stress management tools and personalized follow-up.
Sustainable, natural smoking cessation
Laser smoking cessation is suitable for all profiles: occasional smokers as well as long-term smokers. It is particularly suited to those who are looking for a natural solution, with no side effects and quick to implement. In most cases, a single session is enough to initiate a lasting change, with support if needed in the weeks that follow.
Thanks to this innovative method, many ex-smokers quickly find a better quality of life, freer breathing, clearer skin and, above all, pride in having turned the page.
In conclusion
The ban on smoking in public places from July 1 marks an important turning point in French health policy. By protecting the most vulnerable, preserving the environment and reducing the visibility of tobacco, this measure ushers in a new era.
But it also offers a valuable opportunity for those who want to give up smoking. The anti-smoking laser has established itself as a modern, natural and effective smoking cessation solution. So why not take advantage of this new framework to take the plunge and return to a life without cigarettes?
