But behind this practice lie <strong>financial, legal and health risks<\/strong> that we urgently need to understand.   <\/p>\n\n<p>This article in no way encourages smoking. Quite the contrary: it highlights the absurdity of tobacco expenditure and reminds us that <strong>the only real way to save money is to stop<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tobacco prices: an abyss in France, a temptation in Andorra<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In France: Europe&#8217;s most expensive pack \ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddf7<\/h3>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>A pack of Marlboros costs <strong>\u20ac13<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1 pack per day<\/strong> = \u20ac13 \u00d7 30 = <strong>\u20ac390 per month<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over one year: <strong>\u20ac4,680<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over 10 years: <strong>\u20ac46,800<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Enough to buy a small new car every two years, or an apartment in certain regions.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In Andorra: up to three times cheaper \ud83c\udde6\ud83c\udde9<\/h3>\n\n<p>In Andorra, a pack of Marlboro sells for between <strong>\u20ac3.50 and \u20ac4.54<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1 pack\/day at \u20ac4<\/strong> = \u20ac120\/month<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monthly savings: <strong>\u20ac270<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Annual savings: <strong>\u20ac3,240<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Savings over 10 years: <strong>\u20ac32,400<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>In Spain, prices are around <strong>\u20ac3 to \u20ac6<\/strong> a pack: still half the price in France.<\/p>\n\n<p>This difference fuels constant traffic to these border countries, where cigarettes are seen as a commercial loss leader.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the customs rules?<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Spain (European Union country)<\/h3>\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Authorized quotas per person: Since the new decree of March 27, 2024, which came into force on March 29, the limit of one carton of cigarettes per person has been lifted. From now on, you can legally bring back up to <strong>800 cigarettes<\/strong> (or <strong>4 cartons<\/strong>) from a European Union country, as well as <strong>400 cigarillos, 200 cigars<\/strong> or <strong>1 kg of rolling tobacco<\/strong>, as long as it&#8217;s for your own personal consumption .<br\/>Be careful, however: customs use <strong>12 criteria<\/strong> (including quantity, mode of transport, or even the location of the products in the vehicle) to check whether the purchase is really for personal use . If you have any doubts about your motives, you are still liable to penalties &#8211; confiscation, fines or even seizure &#8211; even if you are under the authorized thresholds.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\udde9 From Andorra (outside the European Union)<\/h3>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The limits are stricter:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>300 cigarettes (1.5 cartons)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or 150 cigarillos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or 75 cigars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or 400 g tobacco<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>These quantities are considered <strong>personal use<\/strong>. Exceeding these thresholds is subject to stricter controls. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:22px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Financial risks in the event of overruns<\/h2>\n\n<p>Many people think it&#8217;s enough to bring back &#8220;a little more&#8221; without being worried. This is not the case.
