And when a European report points out that the cost of cancer-related<\/strong> deaths attributable toalcohol<\/strong> amounts to billions of euros<\/strong> in Europe, we realize that the problem goes beyond the individual to become a collective one. <\/p>\n\n

2. Why Europe pays dearly for what many ignore<\/h2>\n\n

The WHO\/Europe ratio<\/strong> is stark: the costs<\/strong> ofalcohol-related<\/strong> cancer deaths<\/strong> add up to healthcare<\/strong> costs, absenteeism, lengthy treatment and loss of productivity.In France, this burden can be seen in overcrowded hospitals<\/strong>, liver<\/strong> treatments, oncology follow-ups, and costs due to<\/strong> the after-effects of chronic consumption. Every billion<\/strong> spent on treating these patients is a forced expense<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

And yet, if the reduction in<\/strong> consumption were effective, much of this bill would disappear. TheWHO<\/strong> itself points out thatalcohol<\/strong> is one of the main preventive levers for reducing cancer-related<\/strong> mortality<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n
