The new price grids, in force since October, apply to all brands<\/strong> on the market<\/strong>, from top-of-the-range<\/strong> products such as Marlboro<\/strong> to discounted local products. <\/p>\n\n

This increase<\/strong> comes against a backdrop of<\/strong> tax reform aimed at better controlling tobacco<\/strong> sales<\/strong>, raising taxes<\/strong> and stabilizing public revenues from this sector.<\/p>\n\n

A changing tobacco economy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

There are almost five million cigarette<\/strong> consumers<\/strong> inAlgeria<\/strong>, according to figures published by the national<\/strong> tobacco<\/strong> distribution company<\/strong>. The market<\/strong> is worth several tens of billions of<\/strong> dinars<\/strong> a year.
This situation<\/strong> makes the sector a key player in the nationaleconomy<\/strong>, but also a challenge for public authorities, between public health and balancing the budget. <\/p>\n\n

The successive price<\/strong> rises<\/strong> can be explained by the rise in specific taxes<\/strong> on tobacco<\/strong>, incorporated into the Finance Act 2025. In particular, this law<\/strong> imposes an additional tax<\/strong> of 15% on the retail price, in order to increase revenue and encourage a reduction in consumption<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n
