While French <strong>law<\/strong> guarantees a certain freedom for <strong>tenants<\/strong>, there are <strong>restrictions<\/strong> depending on the <strong>lease<\/strong>, the type of <strong>contract<\/strong> and the <strong>co-ownership<\/strong> <strong>regulations<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>Can a <strong>landlord<\/strong> or <strong>lessor<\/strong> <strong>prohibit<\/strong> a <strong>tenant<\/strong> from <strong>smoking<\/strong>? What are the rights and obligations of both parties in terms of <strong>rental management<\/strong>? However, this freedom is <strong>governed<\/strong> by precise <strong>regulations<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:14px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Freedom to smoke in your private home<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<div style=\"height:14px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>In principle, there is no general <strong>ban<\/strong> on <strong>smoking<\/strong> in a <strong>rental property<\/strong>. This means that <strong>tenants<\/strong> are free to <strong>smoke<\/strong> inside their <strong>apartments<\/strong>, unless it causes a disturbance to other<strong>tenants<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>However, smoke can cause <strong>damage to<\/strong> <strong>walls<\/strong>, including yellowing of paintwork and persistent odours.
